I've been absent from my blog for a while but I have a few posts planned, so I thought to kick off my return to the blogging world I'd show you all a nail of the day.
The polish in question is Essie's Bikini So Teeny from their summer line, and I searched everywhere to try and find this. It actually was sold out almost everywhere.
Bikini So Teeny is a beautiful cornflower blue colour with a hint of silver shimmer to it, but for the most part it is a creme finish. The picture below shows the polish more true to colour than any of the others - and as you can see, it is almost more of a purple-blue colour.
This polish was opaque in 1-2 coats, which was incredibly impressive, particularly for Essie.
I picked this up from Rexall for about $8 and it's safe to say I am officially an Essie convert. I would definitely recommend checking out some of their collections, because some of the colours I've seen are truly unique and beautiful.
That concludes today's nail of the day! Keep your eyes peeled for another Essie post coming soon, because I have another nail polish I'd like to share. Thanks for reading :)
I took these pictures a LONG time ago and forgot that I had this post as a draft. However, I repainted my nails in this colour recently so I figured it was still an accurate nail of the day post.
This is L'oreal's nail polish in Walk on the Beach and I would describe it as a grey-toned nude. In certain lights, however, it pulls warmer, and in others it can pull cooler. I love the colour of this polish because it is very natural looking, but it still shows up on the nails and is still quite beautiful. I have found that by wearing it my hands look more finished and refined than when they are bare.
It isn't streaky at all and is completely opaque in two coats. It is also incredibly easy to remove.
Between these two pictures you can see that simply by adjusting the light a little, the top picture is much warmer and the bottom is much cooler.
It's affordable and looks great - a win/win for me!
I think these are some of my favorite posts to write and videos to watch so I'm very glad I have these favorites to share! Since I've been on project pan (and to see that blog post click here), I haven't tried a lot of new items. However, most of these items are ones that I am not trying to use up, and rather have been using along with the items in my project pan.
Without any further ado, here are my June favorites!
1.) L'oreal True Match Naturale Gentle Mineral Concealer in Light
This concealer is amazing because it is so full coverage. If I have a blemish that is particularly bad and liquid concealer isn't enough, I'll apply this and it always does the trick. I wouldn't use this underneath the eyes, however.
2.) Benefit boxed powder in Dandelion
I've said it before and I'll say it again - I love this. It's perfect for my very fair skintone and looks really natural.
3.) Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow/Liner in R.S.V.P.
I was worried this was going to dry out, so I pulled it out of my collection and have been using it ever since. Not only does it make a fantastic base, but it is also gorgeous on it's own.
4.) Too Faced Natural Eye Palette, shades "Heaven", "Velvet Revolver", "Sexspresso" and "Silk Teddy"
I've been loving these four shades lately. Since I picked so many shimmery eyeshadows for my project pan, I've been loving the top row of this palette to add some matte shades into my everyday eyeshadow looks. I also just love Silk Teddy - it's the perfect lid colour.
5.) Maybelline Falsies mascara
I tried to get a good picture of the brush - it didn't turn out so well.
I bought this recently because I ran out of my other mascara (Maybelline Great Lash, which was in my project pan). I had completely run out of mascara so I went to the drugstore and found that this one was on sale, so I bought it. I've used this before and I absolutely love how easy it is to apply and how great my lashes look after.
6.) Lush Lip Tint in It Started With A Kiss
I bought this quite a while ago and have loved it a lot, and can't recall why I haven't mentioned it yet. This is a gorgeous product that, when applied, is a medium-bright coral colour. I love applying this, letting it dry and then using lip balm on top, and because it is a tint it is long wearing and lasts all day.
7.) Quo Crease Blender Brush
This brush never used to do much for me, but lately I've been using it to apply my outer corner and crease colours and I love the effect.
8.) L'oreal nail polish in Walk on the Beach
I did a blog post on this colour (link here), so I won't say too much about it. However, I've been wearing it a lot this month, and I think it is a perfect nude colour for me.
9.) Hempz Herbal Moisturizer
Since I've been carrying this around in my bag, I've reached for it a lot. I love the scent of this (some might not agree with me, but I think it smells like bananas) and it's incredibly moisturizing and luxurious.
10.) Lastly, I have two songs of the month. The first is "Flightless Bird, American Mouth" by Iron and Wine (which was part of the Twilight soundtrack, I've been told, but I did not hear it from there):
And the second is "Little Lion Man" by Mumford and Sons:
That concludes my June favorites! This has been a great month, and I'm so glad it's officially July! What was your favorite song this month?
P.S. and if you live in Canada like me.... Happy Canada Day!
I've been doing a lot of these posts (and I have another coming very soon since I just painted my nails) but I absolutely love sharing my manicures with you all and I think this particular colour is amazing.
If you happened to see my recent haul blog post (if not, click here), this was the other polish that my mom purchased, which led to us receiving a free bottle of body lotion. This nail polish is OPI's Elephantastic Pink, and I love it a lot.
The colour was completely opaque in two coats, and is a bright coral-pink. In certain lights I find it pulls more pink (like in the picture below), but it can also pull more coral (as shown in the picture above). I think this is a great summer colour and I will definitely be borrowing it from my mom more often!
What is your favorite summer polish colour right now?
I'm so excited about this nail of the day post because a while back I did a post on the OPI Spiderman collection. While I don't have many polishes from the collection, I purchased one the other day (which will be included in a haul coming soon) and immediately painted it on my nails.
The polish in question is "Just Spotted the Lizard", and this is the nail polish that everyone has been raving about, for it is supposed to be the exact dupe of Chanel's Peridot. While I don't have that to compare, I can say I love the one I have here a lot. I've actually already gotten a few compliments on my nails already!
This is a golden blue-green duochrome polish that changes depending on the light and angle. It is opaque in two coats and goes on very easily!
For between $9 and $12 CAD, this is an amazing polish.
If you could pick one polish from the OPI Spiderman collection, which would you choose?
A little while ago I took these pictures of my manicure, and I thought I'd share it with you!
I love the effect of an accent nail, and in this case I used a gold polish (I believe it's "2030" - there is no sticker on the bottom, but Scrangie has a post here that has a picture pretty similar) by China Glaze on my ring finger, and a deep blue (OPI Yodel Me On My Cell from the Swiss Collection) on the rest of my fingers.
I absolutely love the effect and impact that this has and I definitely will be wearing this combination again in the future!
I finally took off my Sally Hansen Nail Strips (review here!) and I repainted my nails, so I thought I'd show you all what I used.
The nail polish I picked is my most recent purchase and I love it. People seem to love telling me, "that's quite the polish you've got on there". The polish in question is China Glaze's Flip Flop Fantasy. I have quite a few pros and cons for this product.
First of all, I love the colour. It's a bright highlighter pink and it is the kind of colour that makes even the palest skin (ahem - mine) look incredibly tanned and glowing. It's also really fast drying.
The cons - it's quite streaky. The first two coats I did were not very good because it was so streaky, but the third was quite good. One thing that I would watch out for - this actually dries more matte than most nail polish, which is a result of its rapid-dry capabilities. If you don't like top coats and you only wear high shine nail polish, then this isn't one for you. When a top coat is applied on top, however, it has a beautiful glossy sheen and looks amazing on the nails.
I'm quite a big fan of this nail polish, especially for summer. What's your favorite one currently?
I wanted to rave about a lovely product I've had on my nails for over a week - the Sally Hansen Real Nail Polish Strips in the shade 530 Aflorable. When I went to Victoria over spring break, I saw these and thought the print was adorable. Sunday of last week, I applied one of these to each of my nails.
Per package, you receive 16 strips (each good for one to two nails, depending on your nail length and width), a small wooden stick, and a nail file.
The first thing I wanted to say was that the selection is absolutely phenomenal. The amount of shades that are available, ranging from animal prints to solids to florals to glitters, is amazing. No matter who you are, if you like nail polish, there will be a shade for you in this line of products.
These applied well - no bubbles, and were easy to file down and shape to fit the nail. I used a base coat underneath, and I think that made the strips stick to my nails better. Afterwards, I actually put on 3 layers of my favorite top coat - Konad's top coat. I know this seems like overkill, but it's actually worked out quite well for me.
For staying power, the box claims that these should last up to ten days. Though I can't say anything about that claim yet, it has been eight, and none of my nails have chipped. My only issue is not related to the product - there is a space between where my nail begins and where the polish begins, because my nails have grown during the time I've had these strips on.
The verdict? Amazing. The selection is amazing, the staying power is amazing, the application is amazing, and I've gotten tons of comments on how cool my nail polish is. Best of all, I have 7 strips left over, so I'm going to paint all of my nails except my ring fingers one colour, and wear a strip as a sort of "colour pop". I might even do a NOTD post on that :)
The last thing I do want to mention is the price. Now, in Canada, these retail for around $12 - the same price as a full-sized OPI polish. Though the staying power is great, I don't think these are worth that much of a splurge. However, for a one-time thing, I whole-heartedly recommend them!
Hooray, another nail of the day post! I love doing these because they're quick, easy, and fun to write up.
So today I have for you all a polish that is a little bit different than the ones I'd been wearing earlier. This is China Glaze's "Flyin' High", and it's a beautiful, creamy, blue-turquoise colour. In the bottle, the polish looks a bit more like a sky blue, but it's a little more green-toned once applied.
As for how it applies, this is ONE COAT. That's it. I love this polish because it's just thick enough to cover your nail with a nice, opaque finish, but it's not so thick that it's streaky and difficult to work with.
China Glaze's "Flyin' High", one coat
In all, this is an amazing polish. What do you think? Would you wear bright blues like this in the winter?
I have a nail of the day post for you all today - and it's on a particular polish I really love. It's called "Yummy Mummy" from butter London and it's absolutely gorgeous.
I picked up this particular colour from Glymm (a beauty subscription service - they have a beauty boutique). I had enough points to get this for free, minus the shipping, so I figured I may as well try it out. This is actually the only Butter London nail polish I own and I don't plan on buying more considering how incredibly pricey they are. However, the brush is a nice size and the colour is fairly opaque.
The colour itself is fairly nude, and on skin tones darker than mine I think this would be the perfect nude-but-not-dead-looking polish. It's basically a darker champagne-taupe with the tiniest amount of shimmer (I think it's silver?) in it. This comes off as just a gorgeous sheen on the nails.
Butter London's "Yummy Mummy", two coats
Another thing that I love about this polish is it's a 3-Free polish. This means that it is free of the chemicals listen on the bottle in the picture below. Though the polishes are pricey, you're paying for something that is better for you and for the environment.
This polish retails for about $18 CAD. Would you consider trying out a more expensive polish like this?
